数学的位置

All SPU students are required to complete a Ways of Knowing in Quantitative Reasoning (mathematics) course as part of the 研究性课程. Additionally, many academic majors require one or more mathematics courses. Prior to taking any mathematics course at SPU, you must demonstrate eligibility.

The purpose of established eligibility criteria is to help determine whether you are ready for college-level mathematics and to help you develop any math skills needed to successfully complete 研究性课程 and academic program requirements.

SPU has divided college readiness and 研究性课程 math classes into several groupings. Some departments other than the Mathematics Department may require attainment of a particular 数学的位置 Level as a prerequisite for courses in their majors.

资格 to enroll in a particular course can be demonstrated through: 

• A sufficiently high SAT or ACT math 分数;
• 一个合格的 SPU数学分班测验 分数;
• 一个合格的 Calculus Placement Test 分数;
• Transfer of an approved college mathematics course;
• Completion of a Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) associate degree or its approved equivalent from Oregon or California; or
• Math credit awarded for AP, Cambridge International, IB, or CLEP exam.

大学预备数学

The courses 垫0144 “College Readiness Mathematics I” and MAT 0145 “College Readiness Mathematics II” are designed for students who do not have adequate mathematical backgrounds to succeed in college-level coursework in mathematics.

If you need to take a course with prerequisites of 数学先修课程A级, you will need to take 垫0144 if you do not meet any of the other conditions listed. If you need to take courses with prerequisites of 数学安置水平B, you may need to take both 垫0144 and 0145.

数学的位置 policies are summarized in the tables below.

Placement Criteria for Mathematics Courses
(不包括微积分)

To enroll in a course listed in the second column below, you must meet at least one of the corresponding eligibility criteria.

数学预修0级

安置水平为0 (i.e., zero) indicates one of two things: The student has not yet taken the SPU数学分班测验, or the student does not meet any of the criteria for 数学先修课程A级 and should begin by enrolling in 垫0144.

数学先修课程A级

有资格参加MAT 0145, 垫1521, 垫1560, 或CSC 1521, you must meet at least one of the following criteria: 

• 600分或以上 on the math portion of an SAT exam taken spring 2016 or later.
• 580分或以上 on the math portion of an SAT exam taken before spring 2016. 
• 25分或以上 ACT考试的数学部分. 
• 40分或以上 在SPU数学分班考试中.
• 分数145分或以上 华盛顿州的MPT-G. 
• 完成垫0144 成绩在C或C以上, OR complete an approved course in intermediate algebra at another college or university 成绩在C或C以上. 

数学安置水平B

有资格参加MAT 1300, 垫2360, 垫2700, 垫1110, 汽车2700年, EDU 2600, PSY 2360或SOC 2360, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

• 600分或以上 on the math portion of an SAT exam taken spring 2016 or later.
• 580分或以上 on the math portion of an SAT exam taken before spring 2016. 
• 25分或以上 ACT考试的数学部分. 
• 60分或以上 在SPU数学分班考试中.
• 150分或以上 华盛顿州的MPT-G. 
• 完成MAT 0145 成绩在C或C以上, OR complete an approved course in Intermediate Algebra at another college or university 成绩在C或C以上. 

微积分的位置

To be eligible to enroll in MAT 1221 "Survey of Calculus" or MAT 1234 "Calculus 1," you must achieve a passing score on the Calculus Placement Test before registering for the course. 

• 如果你打算参加MAT 1234， you must score 13 or higher on the Calculus Placement Test, or 8 or higher on the Calculus Placement Test Part 1, or complete 垫1110 and receive a grade of C- or better. 
• 如果你打算参加MAT 1221， you must score 13 or higher on the Calculus Placement Test, or 8 or higher on the Calculus Placement Test Part 1, or complete MAT 1010 and receive a grade of C- or better.
